Location and Campus

Welcome to Royal Holloway, University of London

General Information

Royal Holloway's main campus is in Egham, a student town near Greater London. Notably, we are only 7 miles / 15 minutes away from London Heathrow airport, thus ideally connected for international participants. Furthermore, Egham has a mainline train station with direct connections to London Waterloo. Free parking is available on campus.

Arriving from London Heathrow

Public buses (routes 8 and 442) bring you directly from bus stop 8 at Terminal 5 to Royal Holloway. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes and costs up to £5. Both cash and card payment options are accepted. These routes are shown in Google Maps and other navigation applications. Passengers arriving at Terminals 2 and 3 can reach Terminal 5 via free transfers on the Piccadilly Line, the Elizabeth Line, or the Heathrow Express. Passengers arriving at Terminal 4 first have to take the train to Terminals 2/3, then change to a train to Terminal 5. Alternatively, the free H30 bus operates between Terminals 4 and 5 every 20 minutes. More details can be found here.

Alternatively, official taxis and private ride-hailing services such as Uber and Bolt are readily available. These typically take less than 15 minutes but cost approximately £40 or more. Please observe the designated pick-up zones at the airport.

Going to Central London

Egham's mainline railway station provides direct connections to London Waterloo. During the day, there are four trains per hour. Fast services take approximately 37 minutes, while stopping services take around one hour. Tickets can be purchased at the station or via mobile apps such as Trainline. Egham station also supports contactless payment, allowing travel by simply tapping a debit or credit card for the entire journey, including transfers on the London Underground or buses in central London.

The walk from campus to Egham station takes approximately 20 minutes. Please note that the "back" entrance (Spring Rise Gate) is closed between 12:30 am and 5:00 am. Alternatively, bus routes 8, 441, 442, 500, and RHU operate from the main gate to near the station (alight at Church Road); however, in practice, this option is rarely faster than walking.
